What is a QR Code?

A QR Code (Quick Response Code) is a two-dimensional barcode developed by DENSO WAVE in 1994. Unlike traditional barcodes that store data in only one direction, QR codes encode data both horizontally and vertically, allowing more information in a smaller space.

Simply scan with your smartphone camera to instantly access website URLs, contact info, Wi-Fi credentials, and more. Their convenience has made them widely used on business cards, flyers, posters, product packaging, and restaurant menus.

QR codes feature built-in error correction, meaning they remain readable even when partially damaged or dirty. This durability makes them ideal for printed materials.

How to Create a QR Code (3 Steps)

① Choose an input type: Select from URL, Text, Email, Phone, Wi-Fi, or SMS. Choosing the right type ensures the QR code triggers the optimal action when scanned.

② Enter your information: Fill in the form for your selected type. A real-time preview updates as you type, and you can customize colors, size, and error correction level.

③ Download: Choose from PNG, SVG, or JPEG format. You can also copy to clipboard for pasting directly into documents or chats.

Use Cases by Input Type

URL: Direct users to websites or landing pages. Print on flyers or posters to eliminate manual URL entry.

Text: Share short messages or serial codes. Great for event passwords or coupon distribution.

Email: Share contact addresses with pre-filled subject and body to reduce user effort.

Phone: Create one-tap call QR codes. Convenient for adding store phone numbers to flyers.

Wi-Fi: Share guest Wi-Fi credentials. Display in cafes or meeting rooms to eliminate verbal password sharing.

SMS: For campaign entries or survey responses. Pre-set phone number and message so users just scan to open the send screen.

Design QR Code Customization

Dot Shape

Choose from 6 dot styles: square, rounded, circle, diamond, star, and heart. Rounded or circle dots create a softer, more approachable look.

Colors and Gradients

Freely change dot and background colors, plus apply gradients (top-to-bottom, left-to-right, diagonal, radial) for a more refined look. Low contrast automatically triggers a warning to ensure scannability.

Logo QR Codes

Embed a logo or icon in the center of your QR code for brand recognition. Error correction is automatically set to maximum (H) when a logo is added. Preset icons for LINE, Instagram, YouTube, and more are available.

Printing Size and Error Correction Guide

For print, the minimum recommended size is about 1.5cm × 1.5cm. Reading distance increases proportionally — generally a QR code can be read from about 10× its size away. For posters or distant viewing, ensure sufficient size.

For print materials, error correction level H (30%) is recommended to handle ink bleeding and paper quality. For digital-only display, M (15%) is sufficient.
